This CD is more or less a soundtrack to
the famous Science Fiction book "Solaris" by Stanislaw Lem.
The story: Solaris is a planet in
outer space. It is covered by an enormous ocean that seems to be an
intelligent lifeform but all attempts to comunicate with it were not
successful. So human scientists built a space station in the orbit of
Solaris to further investigate what goes on there. But after a while
strange things happen to the people in the space station (don't worry - no
attack of aliens, clones or something similar ridiculous). They are
confronted with their subconscious...
The CD: The story had such a great
impact on Ingo Lindmeier of Polygon that he decided to work with this book
in a musical way. He asked his long time companions Ambit, Mist and
Apoptose to join in and create a unique soundtrack to this literary
masterpiece. The result are 7 tracks ranging from melodic neoclassical
ambience over atmospheric soundscapes and noiseloops to pounding EBM
rhythms. Each band contributed a solo track and the rest of the tracks are
collaboration works of the single musicians with Polygon. All the tracks
deal with specific aspects of the story that the musicians found inspiring.
The artwork: The CD comes in a nice
A5 cardboard sleeve with paintings by the Swiss artist Mario Schenker. It
was released by Polymorph
Records in Germany (Tesco Distribution) and limited to 535 copies. It
is most certainly sold out by now but if you are lucky you still find a
copy of it somewhere.
Apoptose's contribution: On this CD
you find the Apoptose tracks "Zwei Sonnen" and the Apoptose/Polygon
collaboration "Brainchild". "Zwei Sonnen" which means
"two suns" deals with the two suns that shine on the planet
Solaris on different times of the day. One is red and one is blue.
